| Telly Hankton and his control of the drug trade in NOLA (Posted on 1/12/13 at 1:00 am)
I'm sure this has been posted about but I find stories like these to be fascinating. It's like a New Orleans version of The Wire and proves how real it is for some groups to have so much control over the drug trade in cities like NO.
quote:
The indictment portrays a vast criminal network not seen in the city since the mid-1990s. And it was about that time, authorities say, that the Hankton operation got rolling. Since then, they've allegedly moved hundreds of kilos of cocaine, some heroin, marijuana and more. And in order to run that drug business, authorities say, they shot, killed and intimidated people, including some of their own.
quote:
Federal investigators say the Hankton crime family ran the illegal drug trade in Central City for 17 years. The 22-count, 42-page indictment states that between 1998 and 2003, Telly Hankton and his associates were buying and selling five to six kilos of cocaine every two weeks.
quote:
Hankton, 33, was freed April 9 after posting a $1 million bond, cobbled together with mostly property bonds and some cash, and awaiting trial for a 2008 murder when he committed another streetside murder over the weekend, police say. Both victims - Darnell Stewart in 2008 and Jesse Reed on Saturday night - were arrested in the killing Hankton's cousin George "Cup" Hankton III, 40, in 2007. But neither was brought to trial. Police collected 59 casings at the crime scene that unfolded just before midnight Saturday in the 2300 block of Terpsichore Street. Reed, 26, died on the pavement. On May 13, 2008, Darnell Stewart was run over by the Hanktons and then shot several times in the face a year ago, police said.
Hankton once described as New Orleans "most dangerous criminal" Feds indict Telly Hankton and associates Hankton organization was a modern day crime family Prosecutors go after the Hankton Family
quote:
Prosecutors are seeking to seize at least $43.2 million in assets from the defendants if they are convicted.
Entire Hankton Network
quote:
A few weeks after a jury came back guilty in the second trial, in September 2011, a teal pickup truck rumbled up the steps and smashed through the entrance of the district attorney's office. The widespread suspicion: Team Hankton at work.
quote:
Moving to federal court as well is the murder case against Hankton's cousin Andre Hankton, 34. He is accused of ramming a Mustang into Stewart, sending him flying into the air before he landed on the pavement -- where Telly Hankton coolly finished him off under the bright streetlights of South Claiborne. Stewart was killed by four fatal shots to his cheek, delivered by Hankton in neat succession, prosecutors said at his trial. Hankton, they said, preferred to shoot people in the face.
quote:
Porter also is closely connected with recently convicted rapper Christopher "B.G." Dorsey of the famed late-'90s rap super-group Hot Boys, which included Lil Wayne, Juvenile and Turk. Dorsey and Porter grew up together around Valence and Freret. In jail phone-call transcripts, Porter is heard talking with Dorsey and Jerod "Fetti" Fedison about a failed murder attempt by Dorsey and Porter. Porter suggests to Fedison that he aborted the attempt because Dorsey was too loaded.

Legalize all drugs and make these thugs get a real job.

Isn't he the one who supposedly fixed the BCSNCG by paying some players to throw the game?

You must have been sheltered as a kid. Legalizing drugs will certainly make these types of people drop what they are doing and go get legitimate jobs.

What else could they do to make money? Of course there would still be ways to make money on crime, but legalizing drugs would wipe out a ton of those "jobs."

If we do that they would stop killing other blacks and start killing whites. BAD IDEA!!!

Kill white people and steal all of their shite. One of the reasons we keep drugs illegal is so they have something to do in the hood and they only kill each other. Its sad but true.

Maybe at the beginning. But once they figure out they will be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent for crimes against whites they would start changing their tune.

The incentive of easy profits off drugs creates the problems in "hoods." Take away that incentive and the thug behavior will be curtailed to a large extent.

Yeah, lets keep drugs illegal and keep spending millions of dollars we don't have "fighting" them while the outlaws reap the profits of the industry and create unnecessary violence and killings due to it being an illegal trade. Yeah, you're the smart one.

Sure will add incentive since the underground economy will take a big hit. The black market is too lucrative for many to pass on. Reducing the black market for drug trade will change this nation in many ways for the better.

It's so awesome that you are that guy that posts about doing drugs and even include a bottle of pills in your sig pic. Remember when you hosted a live video of yourself drinking beer and snorting adderall?

I want drugs to be legal as badly as anyone but this is debatable. The ONLY industry in a lot of areas, like the ghettos of N.O., is the drug industry. If that goes away what are all of those people gonna do for money? Work real jobs?

Not my problem what someone chooses to do with their life. They can choose to join society and work for a living or commit harder crimes to try to get by and quickly land themselves in jail.
