Thats your problem there.

Use scoring defense, it's a much better indicator.

(19) / (24) 2001 Patriots,how did they win it all?

By not listening to John Madden's pussy tactics.

I just used a basic metric. But turns out, the evidence doesn't change much using scoring D. So, I don't know what the problem was or what point you were trying to make. Because, in fact, using scoring defense makes the argument that "defense wins championships" even stronger:

(total offense)/(total defense/scoring defense)

Strong D:

_(9) / (5/_2) 2010 Green Bay
(22) / (1/_1) 2008 Steelers
(16) / (7/17) 2007 Giants
(15) / (4/_3) 2005 Steelers
_(7) / (9/_3) 2004 Patriots <- just a great team on both sides of the ball
(17) / (7/_1) 2003 Patriots
(24) / (1/_1) 2002 Buccaneers
(19) / (8/_6) 2001 Patriots
(16) / (2/_1) 2000 Ravens

Strong O:

_(8) / (27/25) 2011 Giants
_(1) / (25/20) 2009 Saints
_(3) / (21/23) 2006 Colts
