Finally, someone does a little research. I'm sick of Roger Goodell being a bureaucratic pussy and not standing up to defend the shield and the sport we all love. If concussions were the culprit, Steve Young and Troy Aikman would not have careers talking about football. The media is always so quick to ignore the lifestyles those who kill themselves live.

To be fair, QBs take serious hits hardly ever in practice and minimally in games. Players "in the middle" of the field collide pretty much every play in practice and games. All the lineman and RB commentator are much better examples. My problem with the NFL handling of things is there seems to be no or very limited assistance for players after they've finished playing. Football may not kill people but it does wreck their bodies and the NFL probably wouldn't be facing lawsuits if it was doing more for the former players that helped build the brand.

So maximizing player safety won't lead to less injuries, both during and after football?

My point was this:

Every time a player or ex-player kills himself they automatically try to connect the suicide with concussions as a result of the violence of the game - however this article explains that there is no proven connection.

But the Baltimore Ravens LB does and the NFL commissioner hugged and loved him on national TV. I think if the Ravens make it to the SB that Goodell will give him some head at midfield
