I can teach Japanese to a chimp in 46 hours. You just have to find a way to relate the material.

What? So you are saying that you shouldn't measure a coaches coaching ability through previous coaching jobs?

Look at Mike Shula's resume and tell me how awesome he must be.

Townsend is not a head coach. Do really not see the vast difference in coaching CBs compared to managing an entire football team as a HC?

Is Bear Bryant included in your etc.? Ray Perkins?

You mean the same Bryant who had an established and proven record as a head coach?

And even with his documented history as a coach, I'd say Perkins was a pretty awful hire. Have you ever looked at his record at Alabama?

My attitude toward Townsend is interest that he's in coaching in the SEC. I'm not gonna gush over his ability and wish for his return to the Capstone simply because he played here, before we ever see his product on the field. Is that too much to grasp?

Great hire, IMO.

Why?

Well, he was the Secondary coach for the Arizona Cardinals- who just happened to finish 5th in the NFL in pass defense.

There's alot more factors obviously- but he was a part of that for sure. And he is well known around the Delta area of Mississippi

Well he's been a QB coach with 3 different NFL teams for 9 seasons. But you already said "having a job doesn't mean you're any good at it". Guess he sucks.

Yeah 9-2-1 and 10-3 in his last two seasons is just fricking awful.

Hell, that's nothing...look at the resume of John L Smith. Was he not available?

And I stand by that.

Townsend may prove to be a good coach, but at this point the love fest by anyone other than a MSU fan is irrational.

He only coached two seasons? Wow, I did not know that.

Hell, remember how Dubose won an SEC Championship? And Shula had that 10 win season?? Obviously they are competent, quality hires just waiting to be snatched up...oh wait, they had other years too?
