If the producers ever do this, I'm out. Bond was written as the son of a Scotsman and a French woman, neither of whom were black. Bond is described in all of the novels as Caucasian.
Everything in the world does not have to be turned on its head so much that is doesn't even remotely resemble the source material any longer. The producers have already screwed up Felix Leiter and Moneypenny. Do they really need to do something like this as well?
If they want to go this route, I would rather they kill off Bond and have a black agent become MI6's new lead guy.
Shaft would never be a white guy. The cast of Alex Haley's Roots would never be all white. Just stop it.

James Bond is about a "secret agent" on Her Majesty's Secret Service. In 2012 this person could be any race and either male or female. The Bond name just gives whoever makes the movie the clout to spend the money required to make a good Bond entry. Who gives a crap what color the agent is?

I do. Because James Bond is about the exploits of a man who was shaped by the deaths of his parents, his white parents, and his loyalty to his country.
They made sequels to Shaft and put him in different scenarios other than the original movie. Hell, they even had Samuel L. Jackson play his son in the 2000 version. Why can't Shaft have a white son?
