Alright all of you movie snobs/subtitle readers, give me your five favorites.
For me in no particular order:
1) Battle of Algiers- I was blown away by this. Seeing it in Blu Ray is unbelievable and it is certainly eye opening.
2) The Lives of Others-One of my favorite movies of the last 10 years. It left me emotionally drained by the end.
3) Breathless-Love French New Wave and Godard's style.
4) Oldboy-the shocking conclusion left me speechless.
5) Chungking Express-I love Wong Kar Wai's characters and style. I couldve put several of his films in this spot but this is my favorite.

1. Throne of Blood - Greatest film ever made, hands down It is the prefect blend of of what cinema is meant to me while at the same time calling back to its roots on the stage. Amazing Performances, Great Cinematography and the best of all classical storytelling pieces. And don't forget, awesome stunts with real arrows.
2. Seven Samurai
3. Aguirre
4. City of God
5. Oldboy
6. Three Colors Trilogy

I had a difficult time picking my favorite Kurosawa although Seven Saumurai and Throne of Blood would be in contention. High and Low is also pretty amazing.

Love Throne of Blood. One of the first Kurosawa films I bought. Greatest Shakespeare adaptation without a doubt.
I still enjoy Hari Kiri more. I can watch this film over and over. I think it's the best Japanese film I've ever seen.

The greatest director, taking the greatest playwright and wordsmith, and adding one of the greatest actors. It just worked.
