Just doing a little research on current HOF members and found a couple of fun facts about Nolan Ryan. The first home run ever hit off of him was by one Joe Torre. Also, he never won a Cy Young Award.

Ryan is 3rd in career losses and 2nd in career wil pitches.

But here's my favorite stat on Ryan. As many of you know, Ryan is the career strikeout leader with 5714. He's 839 strikeouts ahead of the #2 guy, Randy Johnson. But that's nothing compared to his lead in walks.

Ryan has 2795 career walks, ahead of the #2 guy Steve Carlton by 962 walks. I mean, that's more than 50% of Carlton's career walk total. When we talk about records that will never be broken, this should be near the top of the list. NO ONE is ever going to come anywhere near breaking Ryan's career walk record. It's crazy.

The dude played for like 30 years. no pitcher will probably ever come close to that again. He should lead in any statistical category that favors a player with more time in the game.

I was actually randomly at his 7th no hitter.

I wonder how long he could have gone if he had started juicing near the end to help recover from all his nagging injury issues?

He is still a hall of famer because when he was on he was dominant and no one could hit him

But he's not even close to being the GOAT because he walked so many people and could be pretty average.

1999-2001 PEDRO was GOAT!

Sure, but his counting stats are within reach. If Randy Johnson doesn't get held in the minors until he's 27, he breaks Ryan's career strikeout mark. He struck out more batters per inning and was able to pitch until he was in his 40's. what kept him from the record was that he started his career real late.

I mean, Ryan is 5th all time in earned runs allowed. It's not like that record was uncatchable (or he ever had it -- Cy Young does). It also doesn't mean you're a bad pitcher. Quite the opposite. 8 of the top 10 in earned runs allowed are in the Hall of Fame. And once Maddux gets in, 13 of the top 15.

This reminds me of Reggie Jackson's unbreakable strikeout record.

Why do you presume that he didn't juice?
