No I used 170gr remington core-locks until I got sucked into the squishy tipped bullets thing.

The .30-30 was made to do it's job with 150 or 170 grain soft point round nose bullets. It works well with either of those (or anything in between) as these bullets are designed to perform well at the moderate velocities you get from the .30-30

I like the 170gr bullets because I never shoot farther than 50 or 60 yards with mine. I'm currently shooting 150gr hollow points because my rifle LOVES them, but I'll be going to federal blue box 170gr SPRN for next year.
