He never learned to run between the tackles, despite being a big back. Could have been used so much more if he got a mean streak instead of always avoiding contact.
This.

no he's fast and that means that's his role
So you think he can run between the tackles just fine, despite the fact he never showed it in practice or games. Just because he was fast they said you're only going to get toss sweeps or handoffs where you go around the line?
Yet all the other RBs were allowed to do anything just about.

same shite happened with keiland back in the day, even though he showed in 2006 that he could run between the tackles
I agree Keiland didnt get enough looks, but that's one case and Ford isn't similar.

ford never lived up to the hype but he wasn't a fit at LSU, like shep
He knows no matter what, his touches will be extremely limited next year. Good for him, moving on.

I agree, but he may go very late to a team impressed with measurables. He will run a 4.5 or under at 220-225 pounds and bench press 225 maybe more than any other RB.
I saw him leaving when he got like 2-3 carries in Clemson. No way you stay next year to average 6 carries because Blue and Hill will get the workload.
Said this yesterday that he will kill it at the combine. Possibly the strongest and does run a 4.4 40 something. They'll see Doug Martin and somebody will take a shot on him in 5th round.

There were times he showed he could run between the tackles, but they had other RBs that proved they were better at it than keiland or ford now.
So I get what you're saying about the staff sticking to assigned roles for RBs, but when you have so many talented inside runners someone will lose touches there.

he showed it in some games, but we never really got to see it a lot b/c they didn't run him that way. i never saw it in practice

it's happened before with backs who had proven more in actual games

and we had guys like ware who obviously weren't running well up the gut or hitting holes continue to get those looks...plus ware was almost never used on outside runs

WRong moneyg. U are misinformed, thats not how things work for a Jr.
When u are a Jr just like Ware is either come back to same school or enter. Thats the norm anyway if u have any sense at all.
U first talk to people who are in the kno that talk to jr's about draft status. When u r convinced u will be drafted at a suitable spot u then go talk with people u trust and last u talk with the coaching staff. These are the conversations between coach and kid where the rubber meets the road. This is the one time u put the kid in front of u and the team. Miles has a reputation for talking candidly to his kids about their future even if its detrimental to the rest of the team. After that u make a decision. If Ford is not the starter and hes draftable, which I think he is w/out adoubt, then u cant blame him for this decision, most likely it is what most of us wd do. Including Ware

which is why i said he just wasn't a fit...like shep
ford should have gone to a zone-blocking rushing team...possibly a spread option

Good luck to Ford!! Cool guy and probably the strongest player pound for pound on the team!!!

Agreed, he'll get his shot to make a team and it wouldn't surprise me if he has some success at the next level.

No, he really didn't ever show it when given the chance.

Keiland is your only example, which I agreed with, but Ford isn't the same at all. What, should Trindon Holliday be another?

But every RB has a specific assigned role, right?

yeah which is why ford always ran outside and ware never did

The correct answer is no, they dont all have assigned roles. Everyone else is versatile. Even Ware got toss plays, how can you forget?
Ford was simply a 1-trick pony, and he was very good at it. He wasn't an inside runner because he's not that kind of back, plain and simple. Holliday was the same (just much smaller).

Are you mad?
If this guy was the feature back in the offense and was used exclusively like Kevin Faulk etc, we would be putting up some big numbers at LSU.
Posted on 1/7/13 at 4:10 pm to thunderbird1100
Unfortunately it seems that way.

Uh,. what? I highly doubt you find anyone on here who thinks the same about Ford. He was a 1-trick pony back and that's about it.
Count me among those who agree. You become a one trick pony if you only get one trick plays.

His combine performance will move him up the board. NFL coaches are all very confident (or is it arrogant?) that they can turn anyone with the right physical tools into a contributing back.

He'll go undrafted.
They're going to like Ford in the weight room, for sure.
