Who do you think will emerge as the backups in the interior D-line rotation? None of those guys have played significant minutes. We could really use Logan but I understand his need to make some money. Looks a litle thin on depth. I hope 2 of them can develop quickly.

Candidates:

Mickey Johnson - 6-0 306 RS SO
Quentin Thomas - 6-3 294 RS SO
Greg Gilmore - 6-4 275 true FR
A'Trey-U Jones - 6-0 282 RS SR
Cleveland Davis - 6-0 282 SR

Quentin Thomas should be the first in. He has reportedly impressed in his first two years, but had to develop from a DE to a DT.

Mickey Johnson has reportedly not impressed to this point. However, the kid is super strong so if he gets his technique down he could still be a quality DT at this level. He also plays C so watch out for that.

Greg Gilmore has a lot of potential. He probably needs to develop a little. He also took some plays off during the AA game.

Lawson is a classic one gap DT but has grade problems.

Bain is raw. Hasn't played defense in over a year.

Lacouture needs to develop into a DT.

Herron could also develop into a DT.

QT should be first to rotate in. After that will most likely be Gilmore or Herron. Can't afford any injuries at DT next year.

He usually comes in for a few plays then goes out. HE needs to develop a better motor but still had 30 tackles which 10 went for loss this year. Those are big numbers for a backup.

Because you're either deaf or ignorant. His stats are actually impressive for a guy who saw maybe 40% PT taken away from Downs. I think the only reason Downs started over him is seniority and questions about him being an every down DT. He's only a True Sophomore and arguably had better stats than Dorsey's Sophomore year.

I'm more concerned about Ego, who hasn't done shite since being here and a highly touted DT. He gets plenty of PT but his name is never called because he's rarely in on plays...

Maybe you're not paying attention. He had 10 TFL. 3rd on the team behind Minter and Montgomery.

Because you've been too busy whining about the offense to notice one of our best defensive players

It's hard to imagine Ego won't be an upgrade over Downs. I mean, the guy played with heart but he was physically not fit for our middle. I've seen that guy get washed out of so many plays. He tried his hardest, he just didn't physically have it. The middle was basically Logan and that's it. Downs was just an obstacle sitting there and required someone to move it.

Ego needs to step it up. It will be his 4th year here. If he doesn't develop now, he never will.

After this weekend's all star game a lot are saying he could play either. Along with White was the most impressive player of all the all star games. Just a shot in the dark anyway guessing at this stage of the game.

Absolutely. Kid has everything you'd want in a DT. I think Brick will light a fire under he and Freaks asses this spring

You're wrong. Downs beat out Freak because he tries to maintain gap control without being overaggresive. Freak could have had 20 TFL if he wouldn't have been too aggressive when penetrating the backfield, which leads to missed tackles with big running lanes

Ego has played, but he doesn't get plenty of PT. If you actually watched the games you would see him being really good against the run and taking on double teams. Ego is one of the hardest workers on the team, he plays hard on every snap

Like when he got hurt? He was constantly praised during practice and many listed him as not only the top dt but top defensive player.
