Robert's been incompetent and a borderline villain this season, so it was nice for him to finally have a good moment (even after he argued they invest the family fortune with Charles Ponzi -- nice touch). While it wasn't a big moment, he had a hand in almost all of the resolutions: he "forgives" Thomas and keeps him on staff, he nips the police investigation in the bud, he keeps Jimmy happy by promoting him, and he doesn't undercut Carson's authority. He keeps the tradition of the metaphor, I mean cricket game, and he brings his radical son-in-law closer into the fold, albeit reluctantly. He agrees to modernize, sees his role diminished, while also increasing his authority as the final word.
He still had a terrible year, but at least some of the old Lord Grantham got to shine last night.

Yes, Robert handled very diplomatically. I think Carson was handling it very well too. I hope it doesn't come back to bite Mr. Bates in the but because now Thomas is his superior.
Watch out O'Brien!

It was a good episode. Nice to see Lord Grantham and the son in law get along there at the end.

Agreed, Robert needed a redeeming moment, he really has been through the ringer this year. Absolutely no support on most of his ideas/rules/whatever the word I'm looking for here.
A guy that that really needed a redeeming moment was Mosley. I thought this was it, I honestly thought there was going to be a bottom of the 9th knock it out the park moment for ol Mosley. But it was terribly tragic. Swing and a miss and on his knees "I'm old." That was tuff, even his dad dogged him. Poor Mosley.
I'm still so pisse at that m'fer who dropped that spoiler I can barely see straight while watching these last episodes. That was the most frustrating/aggravating post that I've seen since I've been on TD. I didn't just want the banhammer. I wanted him to walk the plank and when he went over he feel and was hanged on the way down and while he was on the noose a guillotine came and chopped his head off but he stayed alive. Then I just cut his eyelids off and keep taking pictures of him.
I guess the ban will have to do.
