Well, Von Miller played LBer at aTm. Mingo has only played DE at LSU. So they are different.

But who knows... Leonard Little was a DE at Tennessee his first three years and was moved to MLB his Sr. year.

Ware is a 3-4 OLB not a 4/3 LB

With him projected at #8 it may be wishful thinking anyway.

I doubt he goes top ten because of his bad season, but it'll still be a top 15 selection for Mingo.

That said, why don't we just exclusively draft LSU players?

Just drafting LSU players is not my intent. It just seems that with Mingo and Montgomery declaring for the draft that their projected draft positions and our needs seem to coincide this year.

I'd love to get either Mingo or montgomery. But I would also love to get Werner, Moore, or Jordan.
I've seen a lot of people on here pimp Ansah but I don't know much about him.

Mingo should play OLB. Martez Wilson should play OLB. For some reason the Saints would play both at DE.

The thing with Mingo is he isn't big enough to play DE in a 43 at the moment, so he's best suited as a 34 OLB. Now, he could play OLB in a 43 and do what Von Miller does, but seems like a risk early on. Most of the good DL in this draft are DTs. Star, Hankins, Williams, Sheldon, Jenkins, Short, Logan*, etc. Definitely some good DEs out there though, Werner, Jordan, and I think Sonic Sam would be a good 43 DE, but will he ever be anything more than serviceable? That's the question I have. I think Sam would be out best bet at 15.

I posted this a while back, but I think Mingo has potential to be a big time football player in the NFL if he's used correctly.

That's sort of how I feel.

I understand the whole Montgomery fits us better stuff.. but um just give me the player with the most upside. I believe that player is Mingo. I want playmakers.. guys who can disrupt on this defense. I'm tired of seeing those studly 3/4 de/olb hybrids get passed up and go star at other teams.

No way if Mingo/Monty are both available we pass on them. Although that lost gives me hope well nab at least one of these top pass rushers given other teams needs

Hopefully we get Sam, he was a little off this year, but I think he just needs time to get his feet under him after adding more weight.

He put weight on this year and he wasn't the same, how much more weight does he need to put on?

ETA: I would love to have him, but for some reason I can't shake the feeling of Charles Grant Part Two

I didn't mean he needed to put on MORE, I meant he needed to get his feet under him from the weight he did gain this year.

Duh! don't come here with that bs saying Mingo can't play linebacker in the 4-3 look at Von Miller projected to play linebacker in a 3-4 and broncos play 4-3 and he is one of the best players and pass rushers in the league

Mingo is not even close to the player Von is, sorry.

Check out how they schematically play defense in Denver. While it is a 43 defense, they use a ton of schemes built from the 34 defense. Von Miller rushes out of the 2 point stance quite a bit, and is also asked to drop into coverage. He also will line up as a down lineman in a 3 point stance in pure pass rush mode.

I really wasn't that impressed by either this season. Mingo, for all the talk he got, ended up with 4.5 sacks on the season after 8 last season. Montgomery's numbers fell off a bit, too. I'd rather take the best OT, DB, or (maybe) DT available and (since I still think we get our 2nd rounder back) go with Okafor or Carradine in the 2nd if we like them. It's a very deep DE class, but I think that there's a pretty decent dropoff after Werner, Moore, and Jones (who is more of an 3-4 OLB), and that the next tier of DE's after them is deep, with not that much of a difference between them when it comes to risk/reward. Guys like Montgomery and Okafor are day one starters that will probably never be great NFL players, and those like Mingo, Ansah, and Jordan have amazing physical tools that could very well suck.

If we luck out and get MINGO you will see plays where the tackle won't even touch' em and running backs and quarterbacks get caught from behind rather than seeing a bunch of turtles get blown out the play, fake out so bad. They can't catch an 80yr old man in a wheel chair. It will be a new ball game with MINGO and one alike on the other corner. We don't have it in the middle either but I would start on the corners cause thats where the big plays usually go.

Got my fingers crossed they better not pass on him if he is still there!

If you watch closely he was moment away from a sack many of time this year and notice other well coached teams ran alot of short passes because of it.
