I don't think most reasonable fans believe Miles is driving LSU into some inescapable tailspin of mediocrity. However, I and many others are pretty tired of "just wait till next year" mantra. The lack of offensive execution, creativity, and play calling have plagued this team since Miles arrived on campus in 2005. To be perfectly, honest it was pretty bad before he arrived, but that was just college football 10 years ago. The issue is, that while seemingly everyone else outside of the Big10 has evolved offensively, Miles continues to play the same old broken record of pound it up the middle, play good defense, and keep the other team on their side of the field, "old man" football. Yes, it works for the most part when executed properly, but when injuries/youth/talent/etc. get in the way, LSU gets completely reliant on the defense and special teams to narrowly pull out a victory from what is perceived to be a far less talented team (aka Auburn, Towson,Ole Miss, Arkansas, etc.) The rub is that you and me and everyone else who follows LSU/Miles knows that next years offense will look pretty much exactly like this years and the year before that, and that, and so on.

11-2, 13-1, 10-3 Wtf is wrong with you people if you think Lsu is anything close to being mediocre. We had a disappointing season. It was one season. One year isn't a trend. Offense needs to improve. We know. Offensive stats don't define an entire football program though.

Let's see what mediocre is... the last 5 years...LSU's offense has been ranked.. 2008- 55th 2009- 112th 2010 - 86th 2011 - 86th 2012 - 76th You think that is acceptable? I guess that is just the mentality of our AD... as long as we are in the hunt....

FYI, I've added an image to the OP to help display the point.

LSU is not mediocre. LSU has just hit their ceiling, until the offense improves. Our defense has taken us as far as we can go.

Choctaw- but to ignore that is to ignore the ONLY problem there is..... no one is talking about needing work on defense or special teams... Can you say that if LSU had an offense ranked 20th or 40th...that we would not be discussing multiple NCs now?

Average in a limited sample isn't statistically(sp?) valid.
Well it's the only sample size that matters to LSU...seeing we play the SEC. It's the sample size that determines if we win another NC under Miles. So yes, it is VERY statistically valid (significant)

Where does Clemson rank? Not saying they are mediocre, just curious.

Didn't we go undefeated last season in the SEC? Are you worried about a trend where we completely fall out of contention? Maybe let a few seasons go by before flipping out. A year after WINNING the SEC you should not be calling us an average or mediocre team. We had an average year within the conference, mostly due to the top heavy success that you don't see every year. Still. It was ONE season.

That's actually pretty bad, considering the talent they have had through there.

A person is going to define mediocrity within the framework of their expectations...I think this is true in general, and here for CFB. My expectation for LSU is to be one of the favorites for ATL, and to win if there. By favorite I simply mean if they get there, no one is surprised, it isn't considered an over achievement.

I am not a Miles supporter or hater,
I'm a supporter. I also realize that the Total O has been ranked: 2005 - 60 2006 - 11 2007 - 26 2008 - 55 2009 - 112 2010 - 86 2011 - 86 2012 - 76 This has lead to a lot of frustration, rightfully so. Coach Miles has demonstrated all year that he wants to throw. For a variety of reasons (WR's dropping the ball, OL injuries, Mett being uneven, etc.) it hasn't gone well. He also has made staff hires with the hope of making the O better. And I'll also say I agree with the frustration over 2nd&2, get a first down to close game out, is a time for Copeland/Hill...not throwing. Also the O production made the UF and AU games difficult to watch. It also should be noted LSU beat a very good A&M and SCar team, outplayed UA save last series at the end of each half. That all said, I think Coach Miles biggest task is still improve the O (maybe 2013 it happens, we'll see). Many have given up on this, I haven't.

That's perfectly fine, but it wasn't because of the offensive creativity, or that the coaching was so great. It was who was executing it, period. #1 Overall QB in NFL draft, at least 5 NFL wide receivers, a couple of NFL RBs and a really good O-line. Once that core group was gone, please, lets see where the offense has ranked since 2007...I think we can stop blaming this on Perriloux at this point, its pretty obvious he wasn't the missing piece.
