Ive gone stale on my music selection of late. School hasn't let me do anything so I haven't checked out any new bands really except something here or there.
Here are some of the bands I like just to help the suggestions...
The Black Keys have been my favorite band for a good while. Since Rubber Factory I guess.
The National
Mumford and Sons
The Avett Bros.
Cold War Kids
Brand New
Josh Ritter
Of Monsters and Men
Ghostland Observatory
The Head and the Heart
Bon Iver
Arcade Fire
Third Eye Blind
Modest Mouse
Gary Allan
MGMT
Givers
Middle Brother
Lumineers is probably my most recent band. Don't even have the cd though. Simply YouTube
Old school I typically go Motown like The Temptations, Drifters, James Brown, The Miracles, Ben E. King ect. If that makes a difference.
You get the idea. I guess pretty popular bands I will probably know, but some suggestions might help.

Some of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros' stuff is pretty similar to the Lumineers/Mumford & Sons and worth checking out (Man on Fire, That's What's Up, and I Don't Wanna Pray in particular). Ben Howard is also a pretty good singer/songwriter if you're that stuff. Give Michael Kiwanuka a listen as well. Some of his stuff will kind of remind you of the Motown days.

You're on the right path man, great list. That good list is probably why you've gotten so many great responses. I haven't seen a thread I agree with more than this one.
If you like Middle Brother, have you listened to Deer Tick? McCauley is in MB and he's the lead guy in Deer Tick.
I am obligated to always push My Morning Jacket. By your taste you should like them, but no guarantee. Do not listen to Holdin' on to Black Metal or Highly Suspicious as indicators of this bands sound.
Futurebirds. I can't recommend them enough, check out Battle for Rome and Johnny Utah.
Fruit Bats.
Band of Horses (I'm kinda over them, but if you haven't listened you might like).
