Note: This is considering LSU gets the two JUCO receivers

I think the number 1 issue with the offense this year was a lack of rhythm. A lot of it had to do with the personnel groupings IMO. We had TOO many weapons we were trying to feed which affected playing calling and establishing a decent rhythm.

I think next year we should focus on the following groupings which would give us the opportunity to establish a rhythm and balance:

Wide outs: Gardner and Leslie (Landry on tight formations due to blocking ability)
Slots: OBJ, Juice Landry, K Boone
Backs: Hill, Blue, Hilliard
Tight ends: Dickson, Smith, Gordon
Oline: Faulk, Collins, Porter, Turner, Alexander
QB: Mett

I think we can identify our go to guys from this group and get some much needed consistency....

One complaint I have is miles obsession with this running back runs off tackle, this running back catches tunnel screens, this back runs wide etc

The play calls are dictated by what back is in the game and tells you that the coaches don't self scout as much as they should. The tendencies are easily figured out.

I think we run too many deep balls with too many different receivers. It is a timing thing, you need to lead them, and you have to be comfortable throwing to THAT receiver at his specific speed.

The group on guys on the field isn't the problem. It's the offensive concept. We can't call a running play, get to the line of scrimmage and see a loaded box of 9 and run right into it anyways. Mettenburger has to have the ability to see that, audible to a passing play from the same package. I am a huge fan of plays like Stanford runs where they will change a stretch play at the line to a play action where they throw the ball in the flats to the fullback or tight end.
If Mett can do that, it will diversify the offense and make it much less predictable.

I don't think it's a need to work with one WR, but Mett and the WR's definitely need to work on timing. They were off all season. Plays just take too long to develop and they were never really in sync with any consistency.

Just is going to take some work and some time. Maybe the worst part is over.

Just have a question I've been wondering about.

If anything happens to Faulk before fall camp, would Collins slide to LT and Williford play LG?

Exactly...we should simplify our personnel groupings which should aid the playcallers (whoever they are) and Mett in managing expectations.

He's certainly capable of it...

They could not manage timing routes to save their lives. Mett waits until the window is open, by which point it's often too late to get the throw in before the DB closes. If he throws on timing instead and trusts the receiver to be there we complete some really critical passes that we missed all year.

You're not seeing the forest from the trees man. Personal groupings aren't the problem, although predictable personal packages don't help anything. Until Miles makes better coaching decision for the team overall, like addressing the woeful offense that's plagued us for years, and stops making bonehead decisions in the game, it doesn't matter who's on the field, we'll still make serious mistakes that cost us close games.

I agree but the last qb who could do that was Flynn. Coaching is the problem and Krags is to blame or mett or both.
