Why not unload the gun? Seems like it would be very easy to forget to hold the bullets down in the box when closing the bolt, and unknowingly chambering a round.

I'm not trying to change anybody's ways, I'm just trying to understand the logic. I'll occasionally leave the box full and clear the chamber if I walked to my stand with my gun loaded out of laziness.

Don't really have a club type camp anymore. Just me and a friend on family land but when we stay up there we generally just keep one out of the chamber till hunting and keep the guns in cases in the trucks the rest of the time. But we know each other well enough that it's not an issue. If I was on a lease with a bunch of folks I didn't know, I'd want hard and fast rules about ammo and guns at the camp.

I know I should just quit being lazy and unload it. I wouldnt accidentally chamber a round when closing the bolt. I just dont see that happen when I am actually trying to hold them down so as not to load one in the chamber.I know my ammo will be with my gun if they are still in the magazine.

I know my excuses are not valid. They are just bad habits.
