Well he will obviously pale in comparison when you compare him to the best holding mid and DLP on the planet.

that's the type of talent you need to run that system, though

He is United's best option for the holding mid role though

and that's why it would take years for them to build a midfield for that style. that's my whole point

i suppose valencia could play a role similar to alves, but they just need like 4 impact midfielders

kagawa can handle one of the AM roles, but they need probably 2 more (maybe rooney could do it). they also need a DM and a HM

i just don't see how that would be an easy transition or how it wouldn't take a long time to fix. i know he won't pick his team based on current personnel, but city would be a much better option

No it isn't

Why would it take years? He could virtually have his pick of any midfielder in the world at United (Eriksen/Götze/Turan/Lamela). Also, Scholes-Carrick-Cleverly is a good possession-based midfielder with a good DLP (even at his age). They also have plenty of width, a top 5 pure scorer in the world, one of the most dynamic players you will find (Rooney) and a fantastic academy (something he won't have at City for a decade - a very important part of his success). You are assuming Pep would carry his exact system from Spain to England, which he probably wouldn't. It doesn't have to immediately be a pure possession system.
