hurt locker gets a bad rap from OIF/OEF vets for being "unrealistic" but Vietnam vets would probably say the same about movies like Platoon and Apoc. Now. IMO other than the uniform blunders and the far fetched Hollywood thrown into the movie it was pretty spot on. The scene in the commissary where he's looking at the plethora of cereal and is so overwhelmed, hit home for me, and I thought captured exactly what a lot of guys deal with when they return and why they just want to go back.
Its a movie, not a documentary, so its purpose is to entertain the audience. Nobody wants to watch a convoy or foot patrol in Iraq find and IED then wait 4+ hours for EOD to be flown in from the nearest FOB.
I'm not sure Hurt Locker is top 5 as far as war movies go or anything but its definitely not the worst.
