meant to finish this earlier, closer to Dec 2nd, but work and Christmas slowed me down. Now, if you are of the t/l, d/r school -- don't click. You'll hate this entry.

Largest crowd to see a game in the South at the time, and of odd stats, the largest crowd to see a college football game at night at the time. Incredible ending.Found some good pictures and some rationale for why Tulane "de-emphasized" football in the early '50's. Older folks (45+) or maybe some of you in or from New Orleans might like this:

I remember that game very well. No one thought that Tulane had much of a chance going in but the intensity was high and I could feel it through my radio at home. I kept switching back and forth between John Ferguson and Bruce Miller. Initially Miller said that Racine tackled Huber at the 2 yrd. line but as time as gone by Huber has gotten closer and closer to the goal line.

Somehow I never considered that game "awesome". That was a game that we should have beaten them handily, but we were flat as a pancake. I was in Tiger Band at that time, and as well the following year in 1973 as we somehow played the '73 game AGAIN in Tulane Stadium. The ending was much worse as the Greenie Weenies totally outplayed us again, this time winning against us for the first time in 25 years. After the game, the gates to the field were opened, and the Weenie fans spilled onto the field acting like the savages they are. They were throwing lemons, rocks, and anything they could get their hands on at us as we played in the stands. We needed to have a gauntlet of Louisiana State Troopers to get to our buses safely and then to get out of the city.

In my mind, that was when I started hating Tulane, and more specifically, their fans. They had an inferior complex all their lives, and finally winning a game against us, showed their true colors. They are classless and gutless.

BTW, if U La La ever beats us in football, look out. They have an incredible case of football envy....

Everyone thought LSU had this game won for the start like the 82 Tulane game.

The LSU players were looking to the Bowl and overlook a good Tulane team.

The article said Stanford was called the Stanford Indians. I didn't know that.

Yep, sure where. I remember when they were still called that when Jim Plunkett was the QB.changed in 72 before Elway though. They were one of the first teams to change their mascot because of PC

14-0. I was there too.

You just wouldn't happen to be the band member that got pushed by Mark Oliveri when Tulane scored right before halftime? I remember the band was lined up in the south endzone waiting for halftime and when Tulane scored Oliveri went nuts and shoved a band member pretty hard. Anybody else remember that incident?
