I don't care about the environment either. I do care about having cheap energy for the period of time I am here on Earth. You only get one shot at it, so what happens hundreds of years from now does not concern me one bit. Frack, frack, frack away!!!

You are clearly very educated on the subject...having watched one highly biased HBO documentary.

So someone watches a propaganda movie by a leftist entertainment organization and determines fracking is evil. Maybe you can watch HBO specials on Iraq, Afghanistan, Barack Obama, the Tea Party and gun control, so that you can develop views on those subjects as well.

These special are so far off. We have been fracking for 30yrs this is not something new. How you people think fracking a formation that in 3 miles deep has any effect on tap water a couple hundred feet is beyond me. Not one single one of know a damn thing about drilling.

Once the big oil and gas players start to get into fracking it will get a lot safer (already very safe to begin with). It's the smaller operations that cut corners to operate within tight margins that are giving fracking a bad rep. Also, people are compensated very well to drill on their land so go eat a dick you commie.

If you think this same thing can't be said about the politicians that populate our government then your fooling yourself. Do you honestly believe that these politicians really truely care about the population? News flash they don't. not really. Oh they come off as sounding good and saying the right things but its just lip service. Just like big oil they care as long as they benefit in some way. When it stops being a benefit to them, then its over.

100% fact, I own a descent plot of land in Natchitoches parish and we are dealing with their pressure and spin doctors right now. I'm perfectly happy making a modest living growing trees, Frick fracking.

well they do, at least the upper level people do, but it is just because of liability, not because they genuinely care

Yeah, people in the industry want to make money. But nobody puts into account of how much these companies help communities strive economically. The issues with fracking that everyone also complains about (Dirty Water, etc.) all occurred but of an error made in the fracking process. Overall, fracking is safe when done correctly and well help many communities bounce back in this economy.

Any company wants to maximize profit. Oil company CEO's may not personally care, but they care so that their company doesn't get sued or fined. Trust me, you constantly get lectured on fluid spills and what not when you are in the industry, even if it's just detergent. I work as an engineer in deepwater fracking which is not quite as agressive as this land fracking, but I know what's going on. These documentaries are very misleading. I'm not saying something bad couldn't happen if proper precautions aren't taken, but I don't know of any company around here that doesn't cover their ass. Fractures propagate horizontally due to the overburden force of the layers of earth above the formation. This nonsense of cracks shooting up thousands of feet to the water table is highly misunderstood. Maybe, MAYBE if a company were to frac a gas zone directly below (50 feet or so) of at water table, it could disturb the water table. But I can't imaging that has ever happened. If it did, blame the idiot that made that decision, not fracking as a whole. As far as the fluids they pump, that's way overblown because companies won't release their trade secret formulas. I've held most of the fluid (gels mostly) in my bare hand. They are harmless. The acids could be alarming to some, but not much is really pumped and that's going to flow back with the well.
