It had the "epic feel" that 2T and ROTK had but I don't remember half of the things that happened in the book and the plot wasn't as good as those two.

Again, Gollum stole the show in one of the few parts I remembered from the book. The fight scenes were good, but again I'm left asking about of the biggest plotholes of all time, the Eagles, why didn't they get the eagles to help in the first place?

Are you referring to LotR or the Hobbit? If the Hobbit, the only reason the they helped the dwarves was Gandalf and the fact that they really fricking hate Orcs. They're not going to help the Dwarves anymore than they have to, since most of Middle Earth thinks they're on a suicide mission of greed. Killing Orcs is just pretty much the favorite pastime of Eagles.

With LotR, the Nazgul would have easily taken them down before they got to Mount Doom. Even if they made it there, the Nazgul and the rest of Sauron's army sure as hell would have made sure they didn't make it out. Not even close to a plot hole.
