OP,
How are you and said friend going to go about NFA paperwork and tax stamps and whatnot? Is he a class III FFL?

I always thought this was a .223 sized round.

.308 size bullet in a .223 case.
What brand lower does he use? What LPK does he use? BCG?

He said he's gonna get me to fill out an application, take a passport picture, write a check for $200 and mail it into the ATF.
He built my cousin one for a M&P15-22 so I know its legit. Im new to all of this so im just pretty much doing what im told.

You want a quick-detach can. You permanently attach a flash suppressor to your barrel. The silencer attaches to that with some kind of locking ratchet deal.
Regarding the 300 Blackout: It's the 5.56 necked up to 30 cal. All you change is the barrel on your AR15. Mag, bolt, recoil spring are all unchanged.

I was looking at them the other day and they looked solid. They sold over 1k in under 8 hours earlier this week.

Are those worth a shite?
From the reviews I've read they are pretty solid. I think they make uppers and lowers for other companies.

CP, You're really close, but you left out one small detail. The 300 Blackout uses a shortened 5.56X45 case that's then necked up to 30 caliber 300 Blackout. The length of the unloaded 300 Blackout is 35 mm The overall length of the loaded 300 Blackout round will be about the same as that of a loaded 5.56X45.

You are completely screwing yourself and your family/friends by not using a trust to buy this rifle. ///

NC,
I'm considering getting into the suppressor arena for the first time. I've got a LOT of background work to do. You sound as if you have some expertise in this area. Guess I could use the search function or on google, but I'll go ahead instead and ask the question here. Would you mind sharing some details to your comment?

What does this mean?
So it's owned by everyone or something, something with the gun ban?

Several people can possess it instead of just the person listed on the form 4. That is my basic understanding of it. I am starting my trust Wednesday.
