They were both pretty bad. Not just in terms of how graphic and violent they were, but in how long. I saw the Americanized version first in the theater, and you could literally hear a pin drop the entire time.
I'd say the Swedish version was a bit worse, but mainly because of how stark the movie was to begin with.

The rape scene in the Swedish version of Dragon Tattoo was bad, but it's got nothing on the one I mentioned earlier.
