I'd almost rather go over the cliff at this point. At least our deficit would be cut in half.
How would that happen, W; tax hikes with big cuts and the economy shrinks, and along with it the revenue...wouldn't that mean that the deficit would GROW? Aren't the revenues from the tax hikes assuming that the economy remains the SAME? Whole thing looks like spilt milk to me.

I'm going w/ the CBOs calculations. See here Click "clear" then check the " let all bush tax cuts expire - $550b" With the fiscal cliff and a couple of no-brainers (like raising SS eligibility age and retirement age 2 years, etc) you can easily get the deficit down to 200 Billion or so. Surely there are more cuts possible - but that's an easy start.

Whoaa!...have I missed that as being part of Obama/Reid's offering? That's on the table? I mean SERIOUSLY, in stone, tied to the tax increases in writing and on the table? And didn't the CBO pad the numbers re ObamaCare? Some how, I think they are like me and the idea of Jesus and parallel universes...I believe, and it profoundly affects MY LIFE...but in the larger reality of human interaction...pretty much like tits on a boar hog. Merry Christmas, buddy. Hope you get something good!

I think enough Americans are awake to be the majority in knowing Obama is a partisan that is not putting America before slick Chicago politics.

Boehnhead is a baffoon. He should have gotten the House to pass the $50K limit on deductions while making the current rates permanent. That is very simple and understandable. And the rationale fits into a sound bite--you just point out that it gets the rich to actually pay instead of finding more loopholes. That concept is barely larger than a bumper sticker. For the cuts, 5% next year from current levels and 5% from that level the following year. Much larger cuts can be made in stereotypically Republican toys like the War on Drugs and overseas military bases. That shows a commitment to spending less instead of just raising more money to waste. It also allows the GOP to say "we cut everything, not just social programs". But most important, the House would have passed a concrete proposal with two weeks left. Then they could have held daily press conferences asking why Reid was refusing to act.

Hmmm, the articles seems to be quite a bit short on details of what Boehner's actual plan is, except to keep taxes the same for everybody under $1 million income the same. Boehner tried to pass something the same thing earlier with Plan B, but supposedly it got scuttled by members of the Republican party who didn't want to raise taxes on anybody.

Isn't this what all politicians do? They all need to agree to cut out the "waste". Taxing the shite out of the top 2-3% of the income earners damn sure isn't gonna fix a f*cking thing.
