According to the New York Daily News, the latest rumblings regarding Leno are coming from talent agents who say they have been contacted by NBC brass looking for a new host to take over Fallon’s 12:35 a.m. slot.
Leno’s rep declined to comment, while reps for Fallon and NBC did not respond immediately to ABCNews.com’s request for comment.

Did they not already try and fail at replacing Leno?

I would say the failure fell more on NBC than the last person they picked to replace him.

It would be Leno fricking someone out of the Tonight Show for the third time if they did it. Leno isn't giving up that chair until he dies.

And he shouldn't IMO. Leno isn't perfect but I think he's pretty good. He gets a lot of hate and I know a lot of people think he's an a-hole but he does a good job

Leno's good for the demo of his timeslot and Fallon is great for his. I don't see why anything has to change.

I guess the Mayans were right after all

This is exactly why what happened in 2009 was a huge cluster by NBC. Let's not make Conan O'Brien out to be a saint in all this mess because he wasn't. I like Coco but he is the one who forced Leno out of The Tonight Show in the first place. He wanted that chair and, when NBC wouldn't give it to him, he told them he was going to look for another network. NBC caved in 2004 and told Leno he would "retire" in 2009 and would turn the show over to Conan O'Brien. By that time, NBC figured, Leno's ratings would be down and he'd be on his way to retirement anyway. Problem was, when 2009 finally arrived, Leno's ratings were as solid as ever.

So, Conan was successful, told the network he wanted the better timeslot, they refused, so he wanted to look elsewhere, but they changed their minds. How is Conan in any way at fault for anything that went down? Do you blame the guy for wanting something better for himself? I'm pretty sure Conan was very honest and open with NBC throughout the whole deal. NBC had a choice to make, and they made it, then reneged on their choice, screwing over Conan.

They paid Conan 45 million dollars to give Leno the job for 3.5 more years.
Brillant.
Brillant.

So it's okay for Conan to stab Leno in the back because he's bettering himself. But when Leno does the exact same thing it's considered wrong, selfish, and greedy? Give me a break.
And NBC reneged because Conan's ratings were so abysmal that his all-new shows were getting beaten in the ratings by Letterman reruns.

How did he stab Leno in the back? He had the Late Night slot for 16 years and had been wanting to move up to a primetime slot for some time. Not his fault that NBC promised him Leno's spot so that he wouldn't switch to ABC.

Wrong.
After 16 years in latenight, Conan was ready to make the jump. He went to NBC and told them if they couldn't give him an idea if he would ever be able to take over the Tonight Show, he was going to look elsewhere. NBC brokered the deal with Leno, not Conan.
How long should Aaron Rodgers have sat the bench behind Brett Favre before he wanted to be traded? Is he an a-hole for starting the Favre drama that happened in Green Bay?

Conan's ratings were comparable with Leno's first few months on air. He would've been fine given time. NBC panicked because Leno's variety show was bombing.
And I'm not a Leno hater because he's very good to a comedian that I'm a fan of but the truth's the truth.

He basically gave NBC an ultimatum and forced them to choose the younger, more hip guy over the older, more established guy. So what if he had the job for 16 years? Carson had that gig for 30 years before he retired. The ratings weren't nearly what they were under Carson but Leno was absolutely destroying the competition. But Conan O'Brien wanted the top job and threatened to compete with Leno on another network if he didn't get it. No...that's not morally wrong at all. That's just Conan O'Brien advancing his career. If the NBC executives had the ability of hindsight and could have seen just how bad Conan's ratings would be in that time slot, perhaps they could have called his bluff. But they couldn't and Conan ended up forcing Leno out.

This is a misnomer. Conan O'Brien took over from Jay on June 1, 2009. His ratings were at record lows by the end of the month and were being beaten by Letterman's reruns by mid-July. The Jay Leno Show did not premiere on NBC until September 14. By that time, Conan's ratings were virtually nonexistent. It wasn't until January that NBC announced its intentions to move Leno back to The Tonight Show.

I understand. Look. I'm not saying Conan was rocking the world with the Tonight Show but he would've been fine given time. So would Fallon but if NBC isn't going to give that time, then don't attempt the move.
Jay's show did terribly. That's what initiated the panic from NBC. Without the problem of what to do with Jay, they probably would've given Conan more time.

Doubtful. Leno will host that show until he's senile.

NBC screwed up with Leno as well. Leno wanted to leave the network and go to ABC but the NBC execs didn't want to lose Leno either so they gave him his own variety show in primetime, completely disregarding the fact that variety shows ALWAYS fail in primetime.

Wait....because he was turning down better offers hoping to get his dream job?
Leno's contract ended in 09.
Did not re-sign.
The switch was set in 04
Leno was actually prepping to retire, putting his entire Tonight show salary into savings, and living off of stand up comedy funds.
He was only retirement cold feet leading to him signing a non-Tonight Show contract that led to all this.
