Fwiw, I just got done hanging out with a state biologist at the camp who was scoring some huge bucks and asking various questions about what we were seeing/killing and how the flood seemed to affect our herd.

I'm not going to bore y'all with details, but he has repeatedly stated that we have deer dying of old age just because of the type of terrain we have and how healthy he thinks our deer herd is.

We shoot some young bucks too. He also aged a 4 point and ugly 7 point we killed last year at 4,5 and 3.5 years old respectively going off jawbones and pictures. The several years we were in DMAP also showed that we were shooting a good bit of 4.5+ year old bucks and even two that were too old to tell. Further proof IMO that you simply cannot manage some places with guns and bullets.
