Carnivale
is it something I should check out?
It's....strange. But interesting so far. I'm six episodes in (so 1/4 through the series as there were only two seasons), and am trying to figure out where things are headed. But I'm digging it so far. It has a very odd vibe to it, which I like, and a lot of mystery and shite. It's cool. Right now, I'm just hoping some of my questions get answered, but from what I've heard, there is pretty good closure to the series, so I'm looking forward to it.

For Cocomo (and Fearthehat):
I recommend Carnivale - however, the series was cancelled, not ended. So, kind of like Rome - you have to speculate where it would have gone. Daniel Knauf was toying with the idea of a wrap up movie. I'm not sure any of that is in the cards now, because of the passage of time and the fact that Nick Stahl is a complete basket case.
Having said that, I recommend it because of the wonderful characters, the surreal environment, mythological story line and great acting. The 2 seasons you get are excellent.
