Paging Ole Geauxt (Tactical .22 Rifle related)

I know you've been seeking advice and opinions on Tactical .22 auto's lately and one of the ones you were looking at was the Mossberg 715T.
I recently bought the "Flat Top" model from a coworker(picture below). I ordered and received a scope to put on it. I'd recommend that if you get one of these and are planning on putting a scope on it that you go with the "Carry Handle" model. Unless you buy an extended-height set of rings for the scope, you'll find that it sits too low on the rail to get a comfortable line of sight. You have to cock your head way over the cheek pad just to see through the scope.
Luckily, I have another coworker who had the carry handle model and was looking for a flat top model because his kids have trouble seeing through the scope on the carry handle. We just traded them out this morning.
I also like the carry handle version a little more for it's extended forearm rail. The barrel on the carry handle model is 18" where as it's 16" on the flat top. Gives you more room for accessories on the rail.
Anyway, good luck with your search if you're still looking.

I bought the carry handle for that same reason in terms of the scope. So much more comfortable to see when it sits on top of the carry handle

That's why I love America - because friends can trade guns.

cd, i is confused between mossberg and smith and wesson... you think mossy is good enough and worth the 100 dollars cheaper?
but, if getting mossberg, get the handle for sure huh,, if mounting a scope??

About to go buy one. Was leaning toward the Smith & Wesson. But i was told that S&W only has 25 round magazines. Was leaning toward open sights.

That is correct on the 25 rounds.

I have no experience with the S&W. Not even held one. So I can't speak to their quality. All I know is what I hear and they have a very good reputation as a good, if not great, quality tactical .22.
The Mossberg is cheaper. And cheaper for a reason. Except for the receiver and barrel, which come straight out of a Mossberg 702 Plinkster, everything else is plastic. To me, it feels solid even though it's plastic. I can't speak to how it shoots yet though. I just got it last Friday and was waiting for the scope I ordered. It came in Thursday and I didn't like the way it lined up with my line of sight. I had already talked to my other coworker about making the trade if I didn't like the way the scope sat on the flat top model so we made the swap today. I'll be sighting it in tomorrow hopefully, and report back to you.
I'd recommend that whichever manufacturer you get that you get the carry handle model or if you prefer the flat top, be sure to get extended height scope ring mounts.
With guns, just like in almost anything, you get what you pay for. My plan is to use this as my "every day plinker". I wasn't looking to spend a ton of money on it and didn't. As you know, it's all about the buyers preference and feel when it comes to guns. All the reviews in the world could say "X" gun is the greatest in the world but what if it doesn't fit in your hand just right? It's not the best for you, then, is it.

Burris makes a scope mount specifically designed for a flattop AR that is supposed to provide the proper eye relief. Think it is called a PEPR. I have one on my AR and don't have any problems lining up the scope.

Josey's Smith 15-22 with the red dot sight is uberhedy. It's next on my gun to do list.
