It's a Vietnam Service ribbon. I'm pretty sure it's only given to people that were in country.

He clearly staged the photo 42 years ago to trick everyone who watches his TV show in 2012 into thinking he's a vet.


And yes, I know the show is staged....but the banter is hilarious and it's the only reality TV show that I can tolerate.

I can't confirm the ribbon for in service or just time served during the conflict - I served two tours there in 65 through 68 and have clusters for each campaign in country - google will have pics of the in country ribbons - only way to confirm anyone's svc there is from their DD214 - either way the man is a vet.
