He took the reigns of a defense that had plenty of young talent but no clue how to game plan or make adjustments. Our QB situation certainly didn't help though. I'm not sure I'll ever figure out how Danny McCray could look so lost on an SEC field, and several years later turn out to be a valuable starting safety for the Dallas Cowboys.

To my knowledge he was co-defensive coordinator in title only...Mallory ran the defense. He is a pretty good recruiter with most of his contacts being in east Texas.

IMO he's a lot like Miles being that he is a good guy, loyal (to a fault sometimes), and is probably more respected in the coaching ranks than he is by the fans. He was scooped up pretty quick by Stoops.

And I wouldn't call McCray a valuable starter for the Cowboys. To me, safety was their weakest position prior to the injuries on defense. He still looks lost in coverage a lot of the time. He is good on special teams though.
