False River Boys Basketball lost to Southern Lab 121-13 in 2003. Don't hear any bitching about that lopsided score.

When I was in high school we played False River and beat them 77-7... Their points came off a banked in 3, a behind the head sideways shot and a layup...
We were up like 58-3 at half and pulled all of our first and second string out, our third team was at least twice as good as them. Our coach told them to quit scoring half way through the 3rd when we were up like 75-5 or something. One JV kid scored in the 4th and our coach pulled him out and screamed at him

False River sucked

I'm usually on board with most of the things that classify as "pussification of america", but not situations like this. I mean let's assume it was 55-0 at halftime, it is OBVIOUS you're going to win and win easily. There simply isn't any point in rubbing the other team's nose in it. I'm not saying they should dribble at halfcourt for 5 minutes then throw up a bad shot, but hell. Put in the 5 worst players you can scrape off the bench, let 'em work on passing, only let the shitty girls on the team shoot, play a relaxed defense, whatever. There's just no real difference in winning 50-0 as opposed to 107-2. The point is made regardless.

I agree with you on the scoring part but not te defense part. If I'm coaching it's never ok to just take it easy on defense no matter what the situation. If put it my scrubs, just work on moving the ball on offense, let them shoot uncontested lay ups afte 20 passes or something. On defense we'd run a 2-3 zone, not overly aggressive but also not giving anything away, work on positioning, communication ect...

I don't mean parting like the red sea and just letting them dribble to the basket and shoot. I mean like playing a relaxed 2-3 where the other team can at least pass it some and maybe get a shot off. When the game is 107-2 I'm assuming that they were lucky to complete 1 pass per possession before it was stolen.

Just saw that you mentioned this as well. I would consider that "taking it easy".

I want to reiterate I'm not of the mindset that everyone should get participation trophies and go out for ice cream after, I just don't see what is accomplished by winning 107-2 instead of 60-2.

Two points off of four free throw attempts?

Girls, 50% from the line ain't gonna cut it. Extra shooting practice for all of you.
