Joe Dean hiring on the cheap for a coach that had Brett Farve for a few years of good ball at USM.
Honestly, Dean was probably dazzled by Hallman's resume at USM.

23-11 in three years at his first HC job. Highest win pct of any coach in school history. Won games on the road against national powers. Led his team to two bowl games. Was a standout college player, and an assistant under three legendary college coaches.
It's easy to look back and say Hallman rode Farve's coattails. But what Dean saw back then was a former star player...Curley intercepted future All-Pro QB Ken Stabler twice in the 1967 Cotton Bowl...who had excelled at a place that was historically dificult to win at.
