because the music being made now isn't country music. and more people being fans is pretty meaningless

Oh, well, I suppose someone should tell the Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association that they are handing out the wrong awards to the wrong people; let country music radio stations know they're playing the wrong music; and while they're at it, even tell the folks at the Grand Ole Opry that they're having the wrong artists perform night after night.

Just because you don't like the country music that's being made, now, doesn't mean it isn't country music; and the fact that more people are fans of country music, today, than ever before, is extremely meaningful. It shows that the powers that be in Nashville finally got a clue that to get a more mainstream, broader fan base, they had to let country music artists have more creative control and exert more individual style over the music they make or choose and record. Not everyone enjoys straight traditional or outlaw country, and not every country artist or songwriter falls into one of those two categories. They broadened the definition of country music to include contemporary country music. If this appeals to a wider variety of listeners ranging from soccer moms to teenage boys living in gated communities, so what? It doesn't make it any less country.
It sounds like a bunch of pissed off men bitching and griping that people with different outlooks are being let into their "He-Man Woman Haters' Club." Relax, you still have your country music, and, now, so do we.

Modern day radio "country" music is nothing more than Nashville pop fluff.

Yes, it sells. It's developed to do so.

Doesn't make it good or authentic or meaningful.

Just makes it smart marketing.

Radio only plays music that it is told to play

You must be new to this whole entertainment industry thing.
