I've hand grabbed probably 50 or so 10+ pound blue cats in hollow logs at my camp on lake Louie. Just work a finger into their mouth and when they bite (and they bite hard) just grab it back and pull him out. Two ten pound blue cats will make about a quart and a half of filet.

When we are grabbing, I'd rather a 30lb spotted cat than a 10lb blue. Those damn things are like sharks. They get mean when you grab em. I had one come out a log, bite my stomach, then turn around and go back in the log once.

Had one jump in the boat, a bass, in the Audubon Lagoon.

I guess what you're calling a spotted cat is what I call a channel cat. Ive never caught one of them hand grabbing. I've caught some blues above 20 pounds that bite real hard then just give up. Catfish to me seem like they give up to easily. They're nothing like a bass, white perch, or bream that will flop for ten minutes, but they just hit the ice then give up.
