OK, so if he left, who gets the "blame?"

A coaching staff can't take the blame on a kid's decision. You can't make an assumption that a coaching staff doesn't take every possible angle to land that kid.

never said you'd have to blame anyone for a kid leaving.

Sometimes, our staff outworks others for kids from OOS...and those fanbases melt down.

Sometimes, our staff gets outworked by other staffs...and we melt down.

It's the way of the world, especially with recruiting.

It comes down to, what is the other staff selling to the kid that is working? And no, I'm not talking about anything monetary, so let's not turn this thread into something like that.

I've done my bashing of stud/ensminger for being dead weight, but they have shown that they've been able to provide [some] value on the recruiting trail.

Pretty much, it comes down to this. If it's an in-state kid, LSU should have the inherent advantage. Now, what LSU does with that is how they perform on the field, and off.

What the people that are panicking over this don't get is that it's normal. Every talent rich state loses players. LSU still keeps a higher percentage of in-state talent than any other school (except maybe U of Texas) and has for years.

No school is winning championships with just home grown players anyway. College Football has reached a point where filling out your roster with kids from just your state is not good enough any more. To compete at the top level, LSU has to go out of state to get some positions in different years.

No school can expect their coaches to go get great kids from other states and keep every great in-state guy. As Pappy O'Daniel said on Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?, "We ain't one-at-a-timin' here. We're mass communicatin!"

None of us likes seeing great Louisiana players go anywhere other than LSU but it will happen. LSU is one of the top teams in the country year in and year out. A school that had six double figure seasons in its first 119 years has had six in the last eight. A team that had played for two national championships in it's first 119 years has played for two in the same eight year period. What I'm trying to say is LSU has never been in better shape.

The loss of some good in-state kids may be part of the natural progression of becoming a national program. If you don't believe me, go ask someone from ANY other school.
