10 in 08' weren't worth a shite , I guess I could go through all the years and narrow it down to for every 3* that made it "8.7" others didn't but 10 was a good guesstimate off the top

fair enough, i was just giving you a hard time. i think stars are fun to get excited about, but i trust in our coaches that they wouldn't just hand out a scholly to a player they didnt feel could contribute or have the potential to contribute at some point in their career. so to me, stars are irrelevant

That's funny, but he means overall. Ultimately what we want are good players, I will trust the coaches evaluation of players, but I know the coaches like guys like Fournette, Robinson, Willis etc because they are good, not because they are 5* guys.

More three star rankings are given out than 5 stars, meaning that the chance of a 3 star making an impact goes up greatly because there are more of them.

Ultimately, you see so many guys that make fans say "he was only a 3 star!" because there are like 250 guys every year that end up with 3 stars..odds are at least a few of them are going to work out better than that.

You only get like 25 5* guys a year..percentage wise I bet if we looked it up, a higher percentage of them became impact players.

that's what i figured he meant, but since the thread is about making an impact at lsu, i thought i'd give him a hard time.

i feel the exact same way, as far as the non-bolded part of your post goes. the staff is paid a lot of money to determine who their "5* must get guys" are. rivals/scout is so the fans have something to lose their mind over when they cant bitch about play calling

You are spot on. But star gazers wont hear it. Every year people bitch ab. 3* getting offered. These same idiots, think LSU is the most talented team in the country. You cant bitch ab 3* and #18 classes and say we are the most talented team, we shouldnt lose. Its absurd. Really there is ab 10-15 teams wirh equal talent. Plenty of schools have had higher rated classes than lsu over the past 5 years. Schools like tamu and clemson. Look at nd, weis had some sick classes.

We have way more 3 stars on this team who have contributed significantly and who seem like they will become huge contributors in the future, including:

2012: Feist, Jones
2011: Martin, Euguene, Hairston (2*)
2010: Blue, Porter
2009: Barrow, Williford
