That's almost to the letter of the explanation I received. Objectively, it makes perfect sense. In my head, Tony went further than he ever had and became an unredeemable monster. I got almost physically ill when I first saw it and just angry on second time through the show.

Tony was a psychopath. But for some reason I never came to see have as completely evil. Unlike Walter White who has completely "broken bad" as the title of the show would imply. Walter is now a complete piece of shite and I feel no sympathy for him.

(Spoiler)

Christopher was lucky he lived as long as he did. Tony wanted him dead the moment Christopher threatened him for putting a move on Adriana. Things only got worse when Tony saw the movie that Christopher helped write, which portrayed the main character as a womanizing boss. (Even though Tony didn't technically hook up with Adriana).

Christopher was in a sense the son that Tony never had with Anthony, which made his murder a little fcked up but they shared some good moments together. But as someone said earlier, it had to be done. He had caused Tony too much grief with his drug addiction. They weren't even blood related. It was just a matter of time and the perfect opportunity for Tony after the car accident. I actually gained even more respect for Tony after he killed him.
