Yeah, sooner or later NBC will realize a numerator of zero gives you an unemployment rate of 0%.

Has the formula for figuring the jobless rate changed? No! Stop posting what you hear from Fox and Conservative Talk. It's all negative spin. MSNBC is does the opposite to extreme. If the rate falls then things are moving Forward! Get a grip! Don't be so NEGATIVE all the Time! I'm completing the best year I've ever had with my business! Next year looks to be Huge!

This is one of favorite Obama journalist spins on this:
quote:
And the unemployment rate fell to a four-year low in November from 7.9 percent in October mostly because more people stopped looking for work and weren't counted as unemployed.
Next we'll hear about how the death rate in our nation has dropped. It drops because the people who stopped living weren't counted as having died.

Bull shite. Obama's cronies must factor in the number of people getting benefits as "employed." I refuse to believe he can do something right!

The participation rate is as low as it has been in 30 years...hence the percentile discrepancy. You are either a total hack, willfully ingorant or just plane ignorant if you believe this number is apples to apples as compared to the last 25 years of employment reporting.
quote:
"Same old, same old. The government managed to get the unemployment rate down by shrinking the labor force and convincing a lot of people they're better off collecting unemployment benefits or living off welfare than working," said Peter Schiff, CEO and chief global strategist at Euro Pacific Capital. "It's more bogus government numbers."

Correct, use W Bush participation and the rate is 11.2%. MSM will not mention that to the sheeple.

I will never ubderstand how someone who is of working age and not 100% disabled can NOT be counted as unemployed just because that person is no longer collecting a gubmint check.

I'm not negative ALL the time. In fact there was a month where the downward participation rate trend was bucked and the unemployment rate went up. My comment was, this is actually positive data but the headline is negative. This is a difficult concept for people not paying attention to grasp because there is an inverse relationship between the labor participation rate and the headline U3 number.

They are. Just not in the U3 number the press desires to report. Statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is interesting, but what they hide is vital. The U3UE numbers are illustrative.

I'm not asking a rhetorical question here: do you two believe that this was a real reduction? Do you believe that over 500k dropping out of the labor force is a legitimate point or is politically hackish? Do you think that looking past the 7.7 number and digging in is somehow being intellectually dishonest?

More spin from America hating right wing nut jobs. Demographic changes say hi. Workforce participation includes people 16-64. Well, as the baby boomers age into retirement, the percentage will drop, genius. The percentage fell steadily under Bush, but oddly, that was never brought up by morons like yourself. Keep hoping for bad news, troll. It kills you that America is on the rebound, doesn't it?
