What he is saying is that the talks with Arkansas were serious, but that he didn't use it to raise his lay. He used it to solidify the length of the contract so that the program can continue to thrive into the future.

companies give key employees raises all the time in order to increase their chances of retaining them without an actual threat. Most understand the marketplace and know good workers are always in demand.

The simple answer to what you are frustrated about is that most of our fans are idiots because they became fans in 2003. They started liking them with a NC win and that's what they expect every year and anything less is unacceptable.
Les guides a team to a national championship last year with the two worst QB's in college football history. But nobody talks how that was a ridiculously good accomplishment because we lost in the NCG. Added that it was Saban. O god LSU dominated Bama for almost an entire game this year until Chavis decides to play prevent defense and give Bama a late touchdown OMG SABAN IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN MILES THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

Yes, but thats only what the "pumpers" believe. He threatened to leave right? In their minds that is a totally irrational thought and it could never have gone that way. We are all naive for thinking this way.

His talks were not serious. It was simple a friend leaking something to the press to help him out.

Here's another idea. Shirley, the AD's office knew Miles wasn't going to leave for R-Kansas, when he twice turned down his dream job of Michigan. They knew he wouldn't leave.
But if Arky was upping the ante for a coach to 4+ million, then Miles was woefully underpaid for his value of keeping LSU in the top 10. It was a salary adjustment for inflation.
