Hey man, we don't just give raises for the hell of it. LSU football is in the business of making money.
That's all I have to say to you about this. I'm done.

How do you know? Funny how you just make stuff up and then preach it on here like you know it to be a fact.
What happened was obvious. What is more rational?
A. LSU paid Les not to lose him
B. LSU paid Les for no reason

does not equate to "Les threatened to leave."

My thought exactly. He got a 7 year hitch at which time he will most likely retire. Good deal I say.

As opposed to the alternative of what the pumpers are offering...gee let me think

Dude if you can't understand the different between a direct threat and an implication - and the fact that they might have the same psychological effect on our AD (a perceived threat) I don't know what to tell you.
More than likely his agent told Alleva that based on new potential coaching hires in the SEC, Les could be middle of the pack in a year or two salary wise, which isn't commensurate with results. Alleva may have drug his feat a little, and suddenly other interests appear. Jimmy Sexton is the king of this.

Proof? Oh wait, that's the thing you can't provide.

Using the word pumpers to describe actual lsu fans invalidates anyone's argument instantly. It's pretty embarrassing and immature.

Ok so we have established that your are just posting opinion and speculation.

If i was Aleva I'd immediately call some lawyers and Les in a room to renegotiate Les' pay back to its previous level then. This is like Les bragging that no one called his bluff. Here is the obvious question: what was Les willing to do if LSU didn't renegotiate his contract?
I don't think you comprehended that article.
What he is saying is that the talks with Arkansas were serious, but that he didn't use it to raise his lay. He used it to solidify the length of the contract so that the program can continue to thrive into the future.

companies give key employees raises all the time in order to increase their chances of retaining them without an actual threat. Most understand the marketplace and know good workers are always in demand.

Some of us are so ate up with Bama, that we can't see the excellence that is LSU football.
An excellence I have never before seen in my lifetime as an LSU fan.
I would like to play for a NC every year, but I can live very well as a fan knowing LSU has played for 3 NC in the last 10 yrs.
Any LSU fan who can't, well, that's their problem. I'm just glad its not mine.
The simple answer to what you are frustrated about is that most of our fans are idiots because they became fans in 2003. They started liking them with a NC win and that's what they expect every year and anything less is unacceptable.
Les guides a team to a national championship last year with the two worst QB's in college football history. But nobody talks how that was a ridiculously good accomplishment because we lost in the NCG. Added that it was Saban. O god LSU dominated Bama for almost an entire game this year until Chavis decides to play prevent defense and give Bama a late touchdown OMG SABAN IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN MILES THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

You are leaving out a glaring "C" option:
C. LSU paid Les to reward him for his consistency and success.

Bingo. I don't get what is so hard for some of these people to understand about this.

Yes, but thats only what the "pumpers" believe. He threatened to leave right? In their minds that is a totally irrational thought and it could never have gone that way. We are all naive for thinking this way.

His talks were not serious. It was simple a friend leaking something to the press to help him out.

I guess LSU football hasn't been making much money the past couple seasons.

Here's another idea. Shirley, the AD's office knew Miles wasn't going to leave for R-Kansas, when he twice turned down his dream job of Michigan. They knew he wouldn't leave.
But if Arky was upping the ante for a coach to 4+ million, then Miles was woefully underpaid for his value of keeping LSU in the top 10. It was a salary adjustment for inflation.
