Anything you are proud of is worth bragging about.

Congrats. It seems to give you some kind of superiority complex. I don't think a 4.5 year old 18" wide 12 point from a Texas ranch is very impressive, but I'm not going to talk down anyone who is proud of it.

I didn't say I do it. I don't. But you saying someone can't brag about their deer just because it isn't old enough or doesn't measure up to the standards of what you consider a trophy is just pitiful.

Are you planning to tell your children they can't brag about making the damn honor roll if they don't make all A's? Success is a relative term. If you cannot understand that I feel very sorry for you.

Good for you...because that 1.5 year old buck is so hard to fool and get the best off.

A 1.5 year old swamp buck or a 4.5 year old who's been eating out of a trough all his life?

It's all relative. Get off your high horse.

Oh Lord the elusive Swamp Deer...my grandfather hunted these his whole life. And he killed alot of bucks older than 1.5 years old.

And just because I am live and hunt in TX doesn't mean I hunt some high dollar high fenced ranch.

Good for him. Nobody said you hunt a high fence, but you'd be quick to congratulate me for killing a huge buck on a ranch in Texas and talk shite about me for killing two 12" wide 8 points in a year. That is pathetic and gives sportsmen a bad name IMO.

Ask your grandpappy if killing a big swamp buck is the same as killing a big east texas buck...

What a travesty. I have a 5 year old daughter whom I am trying to get interested in hunting (it's working so far). If I took her next weekend and we shot a trophy 10, then told her that we probably won't shoot another for a good long while, because some people won't be impressed if it isn't bigger, do you really think she's gonna want to go back?
The art of hunting is about the thrill of the hunt, and putting meat on my table. If a deer walk out in front of me, and I want to shoot him, guess what... I'm gonna shoot him. Guess what else I'm gonna do. I'm gonna post it on FB.
Sometimes trophy hunters can be just as bad for the sport as animal rights nuts. If a man wants to be proud of his 80lb. doe or his basket 8, let him and keep your mouth shut.

BTW OP--Fantastic deer. I'm sure they will taste great. (A lot better than any antler would.)

Sweet baby Jesus those are some big does!

I've been pheasant and turkey hunting in Kansas a few times with deer running around everywhere. Some of the does I saw were just as big, if not bigger, than most bucks I've killed in LA. They're huge.

TexasTiger have you ever hunted anywhere than Texas? I've hunted all over Texas and Louisiana and a few other places as well and I can assure that if you haven't, you really shouldn't be talking.

You say you don't hunt in some high fence place and wave that as a banner of how grounded you are but almost anywhere in Texas is going to be, by comparison, like hunting a high fenced ranch if you're sitting in the swamp in LA. Because Texas is EAT THE frick UP with deer. You will see deer every time you go out. You can actually shop for the deer you want to shoot. Don't tell me you can't because I've done it for years. And never on a high fenced ranch.

I've let 12 points walk in Texas that had I seen that same deer in LA would have had me breathing heavy and having buck fever like a little kid on his first buck. Deer hunting is completely relative to where you do it. And that's why you really can't apply your version of what a trophy is to someone else unless you're sitting in stands where you can see each other.

Just sayin, get a little perspective before you start getting on your high horse.

Yes I have hunted more than just Texas, I was born in La, have hunted La/MS/TX/KS so I have a little knowledge of what I am talking about. I don't care how big the antlers of the deer are in your area of the woods, I said your goal should be to kill mature bucks.

And when you are paying good money to hunt somewhere the last thing you want to see is a guy that shots 1.5 to 2.5 year old bucks on a consistent bases. The killing of young bucks is not a good thing no matter what you try and tell yourself.

Not saying we have not all done it, but there comes a point and time where its not good management of the deer herd.

And to the poster that talked about taking his daughter hunting congrats...I do the same with mine she has and will continue to shoot deer. And she will continue to progress as a hunter. And I don't worry about the next deer we are going to take we enjoy the time we spend together in the blind. Alot of times we do more talking than hunting but thats fine too, its not about killing for me thats a bonus.

You do realize that not everyone cares about horns right?

I know that's hard to believe, but it's true nonetheless.

Then shoot does...they eat better any way.

Like I said shooting your young bucks is not good for the future of the herd.

Wait... you'll have to explain how a bucks genetics are more important to the future of the herd than the does are. If all they've got to shoot is a buck, and they're hunting meat, genetically... it's no different.
