Nikon Monarchs are good. My binocs of choice are Eagle Optics Ranger 10x50's. I've spent a lot of time with them in the outdoors over the last 10 years (2 pairs). Great for light gathering because of the 50 mm objective lens and overall excellent quality. You see a LOT of birders using Eagle Optics for a reason.

Im sure the monarch are good, no experience. I can give a +1 on the burris though. I have those and they are great.
