I think he was assured a real chance at the Alabama job in a few years.

Would you be OK with that. I would think We would go the experienced HC route.

Muschamp proved he can coach. We all assume Smart can as well.

Worked really well with Dooley.

Dooley was never a coordinator under Saban. His responsibility was not as broad as Kirby's is. Also, put that ish on Tennessee. Dooley had a multi-year HC record they could examine.

I'm thinking Kirby needs to be DC somewhere else first for a few years and get out from Saban's shadow. Then he can head back to Bama or anywhere else, if he's successful elsewhere, and be a head coach and ditch the Saban Stigma.

fricking Dooley was a Special Teams Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. He wasn't an OC or DC.

Kirby Smart will be next Bama coach unless he leaves or doesn't want the job.

I think next year could be his year to move. This year?

Auburn - dumpster fire run by the fambuleh, no

UT or Arky - Good opportunity, but not for a 1st time head coach IMO. Need some seasoning before tackling that one.

Kentucky - No suicide wish

South Florida - This has possibilities. Smart could recruit well enough to have the talent to win the big east in short order. Good place to develop.

Any of the rest - please. Although Wisconsin would be interesting now that it's opened up.

Next year Missouri could be open, which would be a good spot for him to land. Nebraska might be in the mood to give Bo the boot if they can't get some semblance of a defense.

He could go to USC and still come back to bama if he is successful enough. That would be the perfect scenario.

I just don't see him going too far from the state of Georgia. That's his bread & butter when it comes to HS connections and recruiting. I think if Spurrier leaves next year, Kirby will probably try to land that job. GaTech could be open if/when they decide the Paul Johnson project just isn't going to cut it these days in a BCS conference. His buyout will be low and they can offer up enough $$ to make Kirby interested (I think Johnson makes close to $2.5 million per right now).

Over Charlie Strong and/or James Franklin? doubt it.

Plus, are any of those schools really going to take a chance on a guy that hasn't been a head coach first?

Negative. He cldve had that last year if he wanted. He'll take a healthy raise and stay at Bama.

Assuming Strong to UT, Louisville would be his best option. Good pay, and even John L Williams won there.

Saban doesn't have the personality or temperament to be an AD. He would want to meddle in everything.
