It won't matter much, conference will be 16 in the not too distant future
At that point its either go to a 9 game schedule or keep 8 with one rotating game

Once 16 happens, it will have to go to a 9 game schedule and at that point you will have to get rid of permanents otherwise you will never play the other teams

I think the conferences will all go to pod systems once it gets to 16. That way you play the 3 teams in your pod, 1 permanent out of pod rival, and the other four teams you pod is matched up with for the year making the division champion.
