Lee didn't make his grades and although there was a presto-chango reversal of that decision before the game, Miles didn't think he deserved to play. I agree. Ergo, Mett was named the backup, and Miles didn't want to 1) draw attention to the fact that Lee was being passed over by playing Mett and 2) throw Mett to the wolves in the biggest game of the year.
