Regardless of whether or not the Spurs benched their starters I still wouldn't have watched the game. You want to know why? Because I had no fricking idea it was on and I live in San Antonio. T
The NBA crowd HAS weakened BIG TIME over the years. A bunch of OVERPAID players that are NOT that entertaining.I saw ALL I NEEDED to see the other night with Rondo's PUNK MOVE.

Moral of the story here....don't rest your players when it's a primetime game so Stern will be able to afford his $10million salary.

As a Hornets fan I agree with our great commissioner.

Goodell doesn't bitch when NFL teams bench all there starters in the final weeks of the season if they have clinched a playoff spot even if there is a potential for a great viewing audience.

frick stern. I'm still bitter over the cp3 fiasco

fricking absurd. Fined 250k for a smart, tactical move AND they almost won the game? shite like this is what gives the NBA a bad name and makes it seem like a league of pure entertainment purposes with little actual sport backing it.

op made a strategic long term move for his team. Is the NBA gonna start fining teams that play a boring brand of basketball?
25k fines to Ginobs, Parker and Duncan for each lay-up that could have been a slam.

Terrible decision on Stern's part.
Ill play devils advocate though with Stern. Its not an easy job to keep todays NBA watchable for fans, especially older fans. Its a full time job.
(Im not defending this decision)
I love basketball and always have but there are times todays game and players are just unwatchable.

From an objective point of view this goes back to putting the best product out for the fans, which Pop chose not to. You can argue that teams rest players at the end of the season but that usually happens when a playoff spot is locked up so fans know they still have the opportunity to see the best product in the playoffs where games are more important. The best interests of the players were in mind but at this point regular season games matter to get into the playoffs, the game wont come back to haunt them but I still see both sides to the argument.

Pop's been resting them whenever he wants for a couple seasons now.

I'm in the minority here but I agree with Stern. What's to stop fans from asking for discounts or refunds because the star players are not attending the game because they're too tired.
Miami is a bad example because they have multiple superstars, but lets say Pop does this for a Bobcats game. You paid top dollar for a ticket because you wanted to see Tim Duncan. Now you find out he's not playing because he's too tired. This is what I think Stern is trying to avoid.

Counterargument to that is Ginobli and Duncan are over 34 years old and TP is 30. They had played a lot of games in a lot of days and were about to go against a fairly physical and well rested Miami team. And it's also November when games are meaningless.

I have seen plenty of games where SA has been down several starters and still won against a good playoff team at full strength. They have benched several important players at random times during the season for years now. To fine them now is total BS.

Common sense should stop them

So if Duncan's hurt do you get a refund? Or if Duncan plays but they're winning by some much he only plays 10-15 mins?
