The mule deer thing was something I've wondered for a long time. I saw the fat Primos brother walk up to one with a tripod shooting stick, set up and shoot it from about 40 yards.

Every mule deer I have ever seen has appeared to be dumb as a brick comparedc to a whitetail. I agree and can not believe that the settelers did not wipe them out. Perhaps it is because they like steep terain...
