is a better offense. everyone knows this. i presume miles and company know this as well. number one is to improve scoring TD's in the red zone. number two is to become less predictable in play calling. without a running qb, both tasks are difficult and require a high degree of player skill at the qb and wr position. i think we desparately need to rethink our red zone philosophy. a running qb in college football is extremely popular for a reason. our passing only qb cannot throw a fade into the endzone worth a damn and our wr's are fairly short.

i think it's time for whoever our OC is to damn recognize this and do something about it. basically its the off season RIGHT NOW and we have lots of practice time before the bowl and then spring and fall practice.

is LSU's Offensive Coordinator up to this task? it's his responsibility. if he gets another chance to accomplish this, i say it's his last if he doesn't succeed (i don't really know enough to say he shouldn't get this last chance but it damn sure could be true and we need to replace him before the bowl).

I basically agree with the grand dad, but I think you have to improve 2-minute defense. We were dreadful in that regard this year. Not exactly sure why, but the D really struggled in the last 2 minutes of each half (not just the Bama game, either).

You're right. If our offense wasn't such a joke I might actually like Les Miles.

Maybe.

Which I m sure disturbs him greatly.

I do agree that fast paced and explosive offensives are guarantees of winning games. I mean look at the Saints. They have a great offense and......................

Ya know, the interesting thing in this "our offense needs work" argument, is that it appears that no one has recognized the improvement of our offense from the first half of the season to the second half.

I'm happy with what I see offensively from this team over the past month. Mettenburger looks good, our receivers are making great strides in making catches, our offensive line looks good again, and our running backs are what they've always been.

Considering the improvement we've seen, why does everyone act like the sky is falling? Whoever we play in the bowl game is gonna get blown out. Next season, we'll probably have the most balanced offense we've had in years. What exactly is the concern about?

What gets me is the Miles was an OC at Okie st. and he fails to develope a big time offense.

I thought the O started to play well in the Bama game. Its the D that began to struggle. Had we passed a few times more against bama we would have won I believe. Not getting that 1st down when we needed it is the only blemish against Bama. Otherwise it would have been the Tigers in Atlanta.

outside the red zone i agree. but in the red zone, our improvement has been miniscule. we definately go into ultra conservative play calling mode in teh red zone. even early in the game. it's like field goals are ok in the first quarter. i think if we continue to put up fg's instead of td's and we continue to struggle making first downs because we can't run on third or forth and short (against quality opponents) we won't win titles.

I never predict an LSU blow-out of anyone anymore.

Kiss of Death.

OK.
I'm confused.
What is keeping LSU from undefeated seasons, the O or the D?

Lots of gears need oiling in the Tiger football team to make it top of the heap. Last year I mistakenly fell for the all we need is a QB who can pass and we are top of the heap. It's little more complicated then that like OL to block, receivers to run routes create separation and catch the ball. Qb can pass but need to read defense, have pocket presence and head on swivel, and find the open man. All of this has to happen in count of 1001 10002 or your qb is sacked.
yep that all we need!

exactly

but really, this team is at least as good as the 2007 BCSNCs. as many have pointed out-- we get one more first down against Bama and we're in the SECCG against UGA, then off to c'ship w/ win.

or, OBJ doesn't fumble against UF--just takes one little step out of bounds, (or perhaps even if the ref doesn't blow the whistle, sorta) and we most likely win that game.

It's a game of inches at the top. we're there. plenty of room to improve always.

From a non-Tiger fan prospective, It looks from the outside like Miles gets on the outs with a player (Sheppard) and refuses to involve him in the offense. Kid is to good not to touch it 10-15 times a game. For a game or two it looked like he was going to take the reigns off of Mettenberger and open it up, then against Arkansas it looked like they were scared to let him throw vertical, even though the few times they did were very successful including the INSANE catch by Landry. Just my opinion but they need more balance.

My only fear is Coach's loyalty to his coaches. This was the case between Pelini and Chavis with the co defensive coordinator promotions after Bo left. Hopefully he gets this corrected before next year so we can see the Matt Flynn type of offensive scoring again.

Other than the scrubs at the beginning of the season, LSU has blown out no one. There's no reason to think they will blow out their bowl opponent, either. The offense is def improved from the beginning of the season but it still needs plenty of work/reps.

no offense Grandad...but we just recently won the SEC, played in the NC game, and came 90 seconds from doing it all again.....i think we're at the top of the heap along with bama and maybe Oregon....although they don't play that great of a schedule.
