I think the point Dan was making, more tan anything else is that a contract is a contract. Why should a coach sign a contract for 7 years and then "entertain" an offer to get a raise?

What he is saying is that the AD's need to hold these coaches feet to the fire. No renegotiations and no interference from other schools...period. If your coach is under contract, then you can take legal action against anyone who tries to get them to leave before the contract is up. Remove payout amounts from contracts. None.

Miles seven year contract gives lots of security to Miles and nothing to LSU. Dan's point also is that in a few years, Miles will do it again....it worked twice before...

He stated over and over again that Miles played LSU...big time!

Next time it happens, Alleva should say ...you are fired...

DP stated over and over that LSU was a dream job and lots of coaches would love to have miles gig.

Not much to disagree with here...in my opinion

Well, Lagdon, I'm not sure where you've been the past decade or so, but, no a contract is not a contract. At least not in sports, anyway. In professional sports, both players & owners are always getting out of poor contracts. In college ball, coaches have always been able to switch jobs in the middle of a lengthy contract..the clown now at Ariz.St ( I believe) had 3 jobs in 3 yrs.Do I agree with that? No. But it does happen all the time & to hold CLM accountable when no one else in the country has ever been just shows where you are really coming from: you don't like him, period. Which is your right. Just as it is for CLM to listen to any/all contract offers that mite come his way. Except in this case, what he "did" was nowhere near as bad as what his detractors are saying he did. He supposedly got a $500K raise. That's what I call reallly throwing LSU under the bus.

Actually there is lots to disagree with:

This is standard in the coaching profession it happens all the time Les is not the first to do this and wont be the last.

There is only so much the AD's can do if they want a big time coach the industry standrd practices win out

If Alleva wants to lose his job for not obtaining a winning coach I agree fire a winning coach and see how long you get to keep your job.

This is ture but how many of them can duplicate the result.

contracts have buyouts, so as long as you pay the buyout, you're technically honoring the contract...but second, you, nor I, nor Dan, have any idea what was going on behind the scenes. It has been posted on hear several times in the past few months that some big-wig was going to push hard to get Miles fired at the end of the season. This may have been Miles way of calling their bluff.

it gives them stability in recruiting, other coaches were already spreading possible coaching staff turnover to recruits
