If things actually worked this way you'd have coaches for life, on the theory that each year's recruiting class must be guaranteed to play under that coach. Sorry, but that's not the way this—or life for that matter—works.

In fact, I strongly doubt he said anything like this. The far more likely scenario is that Miles or his agent made LSU aware of the offer and asked for an opportunity to discuss Miles' situation with the LSU powers that be. That's how these things are customarily handled.
