The ban was completely unnecessary. Anchored putter players weren't dominating anything, but all of a sudden a couple of guys who weren't great putters are able to be competitive again, so it became an issue for what are probably a handful of players.
If the USGA wants to 'level the playing field,' it should come out with one approved set of clubs and see to it that all PGA Tour players use them. Same with balls. Play the USGA clubs and balls or go home.

I would like to see some statistics. Facts. What is a typical golfers putting average before the belly anchor and after? I'm not sure the advantage is that significant.
